chapter ASSOCIATion sites

background & strategy

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is a global association of meeting and event professionals. With 67 chapters worldwide, each chapter manages its own website with the help of volunteer members. MPI’s leadership team aims to migrate all 67 chapter sites to MPI’s global association site. This strategic move is designed to attract, serve, and monetize a broader market of meeting and event professionals, amateurs, and affiliates.

My role

I spearheaded the design and research initiatives, collaborating closely with a team of web developers, chapter leaders, senior leadership, and marketing members.

PROCESS

I partnered with an agency to gain digital strategy insights and develop MPI member personas. Additionally, I worked with chapter leaders and the lead manager of chapter business development to gather user insights.

The discovery research phase involved reviewing global associations and their chapter sites, interviewing chapter leaders to understand their needs, and examining existing member-supported chapter sites. This research helped outline the main navigation, workflow, and information architecture. Additionally, design patterns for navigation, calendars, form inputs, and media sharing were analyzed.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY & VISION

I developed the information architecture and prototypes to convey the vision, design principles, and content strategy. Throughout the project lifecycle, I presented visuals to executives, senior stakeholders, and chapter leaders, ensuring alignment and facilitating decision-making.

IDEAS IMPLEMENTED

I designed a consistent information architecture for the chapter sites, balancing member and business goals, and included sales asset spaces for both chapter and MPI global. Each chapter had a space for a hero image to reflect the culture of the region or city. Additionally, I created a universal calendar that housed local chapter community events, as well as MPI's global events, live webinars, and educational content, to better connect the global association with each chapter.

DESIGN EXECUTION & VALIDATION

I designed for desktop, tablet, and mobile, creating wireframes, interactive prototypes, and design specifications.

MPI CHAPTER SITES

Final version

The final chapter sites achieved a balance between global association and individual chapter interests. A hero image highlighted the region's culture, and prominently displayed upcoming chapter events and member spotlights. Additionally, a quick breakdown of planner, student, and supplier memberships helped prospective members understand the chapter's composition.
